چکیده

Surface modification of polyester fabrics was studied aiming at improving the water repellency property. Vinyltriethoxysilane (VTES) was employed as surface modifying agent. Prior to application, VTES was prepared in aqueous emulsion using cetyltrimethylammoniun bromide (CTAB) as an emulsifying agent. The application of VTES emulsion was carried out using a padder and followed by curing at 150C for 15 minutes. The result showed that the treated fabrics exhibited higher contact angle values when compared to untreated fabric, indicating an increase in water repellency property. It was believed that VTES was converted into silicone through siloxane network. The presence of a silicone particle on the fabric surface led to an increase in surface roughness, attributing to an increase in hydrophobicity of the treated fabric.

Interfacial Properties of Polyethylene Glycol/Vinyltriethoxysilane (PEG/VTES) Copolymers and their Application to Stain Resistance

In this study, polyethylene glycol (PEG) and vinyltriethoxysilane (VTES) were used in different proportions to produce a series of PEG-VTES copolymers. The copolymer molecular structures were confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy. In addition, their surface activities were evaluated by evaluating the surface tension, contact angle, and foaming properties. The results showed that these surfactants exhi...

Surface Modification of PET Fabric by Graft Copolymerization with Acrylic Acid and Its Antibacterial Properties

Graft copolymerization of acrylic acid (AA) onto Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fabrics with the aid of benzoyl peroxide was carried out. The effect of polymerization parameters on the graft yield was studied. Percent grafting was enhanced significantly by increasing benzoyl peroxide (BP) concentrations up to 3.84 g/lit and then decreased upon further increase in initiator concentration. Pr...

Functional polyester fabric through simultaneous aminolysis and nano ZnO synthesis

Here, in situ synthesis of nano zinc oxide, along with aminolysis of polyester fabric, has simultaneously been carried out by using triethanol amine (TEA) and zinc acetate. The ZnO nano particles (NPs) were formed and stabilized on the fabric surface by amine compound at 130 °C for 1 h. The synthesis of nano ZnO particles on the polyester fabric were confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern...
